A family electrical business that grew into generators
John Gemmer founded Gemmer Electric in Mishawaka, Indiana in 2005 as a residential and commercial electrical contractor. In 2019, at a distributor's urging, we started installing standby generators. They are now most of what we do, which is why American Generator Solutions exists as its own name.

We install and service Kohler and Briggs & Stratton. We do not service Generac, and we will tell you so rather than take the job.

Who you are actually hiring
John Gemmer has been an electrician for 31 years and spent 20 of them as a fireman. That second job is not a footnote. It is where the habit of showing up when the power is out and the weather is bad comes from, and it shapes how this company treats an outage call.
He still runs the sales visits himself. When you book an assessment, the person walking your panel and sizing your generator is the owner, not a commissioned salesperson working from a script.
The business is family run: the office manager created the American Generator Solutions name, and one of our technicians is family too. Four people in total. It is deliberately small, and it is why the same faces come back for your annual service across northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
Our approach is educational rather than pushy. We would rather explain why a generator costs what it costs, and have you decide, than sell you a unit that is bigger than your house needs.

What our customers say
Installed a Kohler Home Generator 6/2022 and it took a year of back order to get it!!! John's crew was very professional and thorough in the installation. 5 days later, we lost total power for 8 hours and our home generator took over with no hesitation!!! Since then we have lost power and continue being warm or cool with AC or furnace all with the rest of the home power!!! Very happy!!!
Gemmer Electric, Inc installed a 50 AMP Generator plug for me and did an excellent job at the install. The owner came out and quoted me for the job. The price was fair, and the owner realized he should have charged me $100.00 more once the install began; however, the owner told me the original price he gave me was firm, and he wasn't charging me the extra $100 due to his pricing mistake. Gemmer Electric, Inc I would recommend to everyone!
Installed this spring. Excellent service and installation. Power has gone out twice since, unit works perfectly. Highly recommend Gremmer!
