Whole-home standby power, minutes from our shop

Generator installation in Granger

Granger is the closest thing we have to a home market after Mishawaka itself - it sits directly northeast of us in Harris Township, Indiana, and it is one of the shortest drives on our schedule.

It is also the part of St. Joseph County where a standby generator makes the most obvious sense. Granger homes are large, newer and full of the things that stop working when the power does: multiple HVAC zones, finished lower levels with sump pumps, well pumps on the more rural lots, home offices that cannot simply go dark for two days.

More house means more to lose

A bigger home is not just a bigger electricity bill during an outage - it is a bigger risk. A finished basement with a dead sump pump during a spring storm is an expensive weekend. A house left empty while the family is away in January is how pipes freeze.

That is the case for a system that starts by itself. It does not need anyone home to make a decision.

Sizing a larger home properly

Whole-home coverage is more often the right call in Granger than it is elsewhere in the county, but that is a conclusion we reach at your house, not before it. During the free assessment we list your major appliances, inspect your panel and look at your gas service, then show you what whole-home costs against essential-circuits coverage so the choice is yours.

Bigger homes frequently need attention at the panel as part of the job. We are electricians first - Gemmer Electric has been doing this since 2005 - so that side is our own work rather than a subcontractor's.

Kohler Platinum Dealer

We install and service Kohler, where we hold the top dealer tier, and Briggs & Stratton. We do not service Generac.

Installations run six to twelve weeks out

Demand tracks the weather, so lead times move. Right now we are quoting six to twelve weeks from a signed contract to installation day, and we will give you the current figure when we quote rather than the one that sounds best. The work itself covers the pad, the gas connection, the electrical, the transfer switch, and the permit and inspection.

The people doing the work

Gemmer Electric was founded in 2005 by John Gemmer, an electrician of 31 years who also spent 20 as a fireman. He runs the assessments personally. The company is four people and the same crew that installs your unit comes back to service it - which is the practical reason we would rather stay small than grow past the point where we know your installation.
